Evidence
How far to trust the scores.
Three faces, 12 products, every number below computed in your browser from the saved scans. YouCam is the sensor. Nothing in the rule or these tests is specific to YouCam except the input format.
1. The flattering score
2. A different photo of the same face
Photo noise per concern, in points
3. YouCam's own previews
Limits
- Three faces and 12 invented products. Small samples, so read the counts, not the percentages.
- The noise margins come from one face (three ordinary photo changes). Four other faces are a test, and the band flagged only some of the flips there.
- Test D and Test E are two more portraits used only for this test and never shown, by Divine Effiong and Luke Southern on Unsplash. Both are dark-background, dramatically lit photos, which is a harder case than a selfie by a window.
- Five more test portraits (Test F to J, never shown) were scanned once and once darker, and nothing else: Andre Styles, eee plus, Omar Abozeid, Michael Thomson and Muthia Ashifa Salsabella on Unsplash. They show the band on more skin tones, ages and light, but only for the darker-photo case.
- Blur, a crop and heavy JPEG compression are reported separately. They are stress tests, not ordinary selfies.
- The docs say the display score is adjusted to look better. That is YouCam's statement, not our ground truth.
- The cut-offs are our own heuristic. Cosmetic guidance, not medical advice.
